Day 17: Daily Joy Writings Day
Joy has quietly and gently
slipped into my life
Curled up on my lap.
And taken up a space
That I hadn't realised
Was waiting, needing, to be filled.
Her presence is comfortable
Like a beautiful, well worn jumper
Stretched by time and love
Hands warming round a cup of cocoa.
Joy has become a permanent embrace
Around my heart
Going me a gentle squeeze
When I'm feeling low.
Softly, gently
Lifting my chin
So I catch the rays of light
Bursting out and down
At the close of day
And the streaks of pink
As it began.
She's that special old friend
You'd forgotten how much
You loved
Forgotten, a little guiltily
She was even there.
And how good it felt,
Simply to have her near, again.
And remembering,
She will always be there,
And that, she never
truly went away.
But was curled up,
All that time, safe and warm
in that dark quiet place
Right behind your heart.
